Japan Footwear Museum/Japan Folk Toy & Doll Museum
This is Japan’s only museum specializing in “footwear,” with exhibits of Japanese and foreign footwear from ancient to modern times. The 2,266 pieces among the collection are designated by the government as important tangible cultural folk assets. The adjacent Japan Folk Toy & Doll Museum displays local items that have been handed down in each region. These toys convey old people’s prayers, wishes and feelings of comfort and warmth to all who view them.
