Susanoo Shrine
This shrine, commonly referred to as “Tenno-san,” enshrines “Susanoo-no-Mikoto” as its deity. The Gion Festival is said to have started in the mid-Heian era. The main annual festivals include the Gion Festival, which is famous for “Mikoshi-awase," and the “Chinowa-kuguri” ceremony, which historical records say originated as a July event.
